“Made In Iran” 24 hr Art Exhibition by ICY & SOT March 14 -15th

24 Hour Art Show! Iranian Street Artists, ICY & SOT Art Show & Post Punk Band from Iran, YELLOW DOGS at Aerosol Warfare 2110 Jefferson, Suite 113 Houston, Texas 77003
Thurs. March 14 6pm ICY & SOT Opening reception w/ Live Performance by Yellow Dogs
Fri. March 15 Exhibition/Viewing Hours 12pm – 5pm

MADE IN IRAN, the highly anticipated debut of the young Iranian street artists (and brothers): ICY AND SOT. MADE IN IRAN is a groundbreaking display of the internationally acclaimed street art duo, featuring new stencil works and site-specific installations. The exhibition will be open to the public from March 14th – 15th at Aerosol Warfare, 2110 Jefferson, Houston, Texas 77003. An opening reception will be held on Thursday the 14th of March at 6pm with a live musical performance by the Iranian post punk band Yellow Dogs. On view Friday, March 15th 12pm – 5pm.

Hailing from the city of Tabriz in North West Iran, brothers ICY AND SOT continue on their creative crusade to traverse pre-conceived perceptions of traditional Iranian art’s brevity through their highly intricate yet striking stencil artworks. Despite Iran’s cultural flourishing since the 2009 uprisings in Tehran, creative visual expression is still a constant struggle for its’ artists and society today. It is an oppressive force that provokes the Iranian art scene to fluctuate between an inhibited elegance and raw underground energy. This ambiguity is reflected in the vulnerable yet hopeful deep-set imagery of ICY AND SOT’s street art. Using western street art approaches, the artists’ polarized themes of love and hate, war and peace, and hope and despair are manifested into the spectral faces of the innocent. For more on ICY & SOT visit icyandsot.com. For more about Yellow Dogs visit their facebook page here.

The History of American Graffiti Book

The History of American Graffiti Book published in 2010 is now available on FAB ! THE HISTORY OF AMERICAN GRAFFITI (Harper Design; April 2010) is the definitive story behind the most explosive and influential art form of the last one hundred years. Unprecedented in scope, the book traces the evolution of the movement from its early freight train days to its big-city boom on the streets of New York City and Philadelphia to its modern-day influences. Featuring interviews with more than five hundred key artists and exclusive behind-the-scenes stories gleaned from over four-years’ worth of interviews.

It is an honor to have Aerosol Warfare founders GONZO and MERGE listed alongside other old-school graffiti artists such as TAKI 183, IZ THE WIZ, SANE AND SMITH, Barry “TWIST” McGee to REVOK. Although, Houston did not get highlighted as a major City and the authors condensed all of the Texas cities into one chapter titled, Texas; it leaves room for yet more books in the making for major Texas Cities and for artists here to tell a more in-depth story to another person who is qualified and willing to work with artists on that level. The book is a great buy, gives you bullet point history, photos and we are grateful that the authors recognized our founders individual contributions and history in the the graff scene.

Get yours on FAB or Amazon.

The Red Bull Thre3Style Massive stage showcases some of the top musical talent such as A-Trak, Toy Selectah & RL Grime. The back drop GONZO247 completed ended up covering 15 feet x 40 feet of wall space inside Stereo Live Houston Venue. GONZO247 of Aerosol Warfare x Art Basel Miami 2012

Aerosol Warfare took a trip down to Miami for the phenomena known as Art Basel week. This annual event literally consumes the city! From the official art conference in Miami’s convention center to all the other art expos that are happening at the same time; Pop-up shops, the street art Mecca in the Wynwood District and gallery openings galore! With more art than you can possibly see in 4 days, we had to come up with a battle plan! We spent a good portion of our time checking out the amazing works of art on the walls in the Wynwood Art District and at The Wynwood Walls. It was like a whose who of street artists with names such as: Os Gemeos, Dabs & Myla, Estria, Futura, Cope2, Obey, Retna, Ron English, D-Face (Just to name a Few)! There was such an international presence as well, with many great artists flying in from Australia, Spain, Germany and beyond. Along with the inspiring art we saw, we also met up with a great crew of people like Bomit, Rome, and Teddy from The Go Shop! It was a great week in Miami but the icing on the cake was having the impromptu opportunity to rock a huge wall in the Wynwood District. GONZO247 was fortunate to have a business owner give him the entire side of his business to create! It thrills us to be able to experience art events like these and bring the inspiration and energy back to our hometown Houston! Check out a full recap of pictures on our facebook page and a couple below! Join us this year for Art Basel Miami 2013 for sure!

ABOUT DECK W.G.F.
Deck WGF is a graffiti writer/artist from Brooklyn, New York who has been working on his craft since 1985. His artistic styles are influenced by the graffiti artists from the late 70’s and 80’s era which is where he developed his strong passion and work ethic from. His belief in the graffiti itself means you must be a vandal first and there are consequences, and Deck has had several run in with law because of his love for his craft. He was labeled a street bomber during the late 90’s in New York because anywhere you go in the city you would see his tag. In 2000 Deck decided to divert his energy to the artistic side of graffiti from two color pieces to full out productions.

Bring the Fam! Vitamin Water & Adult Beverages will be served!

Stick ‘Em Up! at Museum of Fine Arts

Aerosol Warfare is a proud collaborator of Stick ‘Em Up! the movie. Join us this weekend Friday, Saturday or Sunday at the Museum of Fine Arts Houston to check out the film.

Stick ´Em Up!
Museum of Fine Arts Houston
Tickets available here.
Friday, May 4th – Sunday, May 6th, 2012
Filmmakers will introduce each screening.

Stick ´Em Up! is a captivating film that explores the little-known world of wheat pasting, an inner-city art form that´s as provocative as it is misunderstood. Documentary filmmaker Alex Luster delves into the minds and motivations behind some of Houston´s most notorious guerilla street artists, capturing the lifespan of their art… conception, creation, placement and—ultimately—removal by the city´s abatement enforcement. With commentary by legendary street artists and top local law enforcement officials, Stick ´Em Up! is a gritty, street-smart documentary that reveals the secret truth behind the prolific images you see every day—in cities all across the nation.

Stick ´Em Up! was created by a team of talented Houston artists. A two-decade veteran of the Houston street art scene, GONZO247 worked as a Stick ´Em Up! producer and award-winning screen writer Tony Reyes helped craft the story. Artists interviewed in the film include Give Up, Shepard Fairey, DUAL, Eyesore, Cutthroat, and Bomit.
